Message from the Chairman

Having worked as an environmental protection officer for 30 plus years in the local and central government, I have gained valuable experience in policy development and implementation. Protecting the environment has been a lifetime passion of mine, so despite having retired early from government work, I continued my passion by teaching others. I had the opportunity to teach university students about environmental quality management and was recruited to be an advisor to the National Industrial Organization. As an advisor, I was able to use my specialty to help the private industry advance their environmental engineering technology and facilitate the communication between the industry and the government. My desire was to improve both the Taiwanese economy and environment.

During my role as an advisor, I have learned about the frustrations that the private industry faces when communicating with the government. Likewise, the government desire to enforce laws and regulations with more ease. Fueled by the need to reduce the social cost created by the discrepancies that exist among these two groups and the general public, I sought to create a platform for reducing environmental impact while increasing national productivity. The objectives of the platform are to create balanced policies and reasonable rules that result in mutual cooperation. This platform will also focus on education, economic and financial management, and technology. In this way, the sustainability of the environment is ensured.

Recently, global warming has become a hot issue due to Al Gore’s film, “An Inconvenient Truth;” while the concept of “cradle to cradle” reminds us that all resources should be valued. Therefore, regardless of any government positions or company titles, there is a need to devote more time and energy to contribute to the well-being of our planet.

Consequently, with the support and encouragement of the general public, as well as many public and private organizations, The Taiwan Environmental Sustainable Development (TESD) Foundation is founded. Although we are still in the beginning stages of this foundation, we are confident that we will create a significant impact on our environment.

We ask for your continued support in reaching our goals.
